Toledo, Spain
We joined up with our tour group today. The guide's name is Miguel and he's very nice. It was super hot all day and even at 8 p.m. it was still 31 degrees. The good thing is there is no rain in sight, not even a cloud! My mom is really happy about the tour because every side trip is "optional" so if you just want to do your own thing you can. Some people did their own thing all day today. I am the only kid but there are 5 teenagers with their families. We went to a town called Toledo. It was the capital of Spain until the 1500's and then Madrid became the capital. It has a green river that runs around it. On the way there we saw lots of olive trees and also fields of red poppies. 45% of all the olive oil in the world comes from Spain! We also saw them making gold leaf stuff like jewelry. That was cool. They had a thin thread of gold and they would tap it onto the piece of steel. We also went to a huge church. There was amazing marble and gold and tombs of many Spanish kings from 1200 years ago. There were two different pipe organs, one had over 6,000 pipes and the other over 1,000 pipes. The streets were super narrow. The most narrow I've seen yet and very steep. The bridge in the picture was call St. Martin and it was built 100's of years ago. Things in Spain are very old. I'm not very excited about the food here but they do have excellent french fries and really good freezies!
